Job description

The Psychosocial Response Unit undertakes statewide compliance and engagement activities to ensure stakeholders are fulfilling their obligations in relation to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the Act) and the Code.

The Lead Inspector is a senior field-based position operating within an efficient, flexible and responsive statewide team of inspectors. This role will support the Operations Manager by assisting with operational requirements, leading complex psychosocial response assessments and providing supervision, mentoring and coaching to inspectors in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Utilise the powers appointed to inspectors according to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the Act) to assist the government in meeting the objectives of the Act;
• Provide operational leadership and oversight of statewide compliance campaigns such as safety blitzes and industry audit, as well as complex psychosocial response assessments that may result in a prosecution.
• Lead high risk, statewide targeted psychosocial assessment programs which monitor and assess compliance with workplace health and safety legislation, and provide reports on team outcomes in accordance with procedures, objectives and performance standards adopted by OIR;
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and strategic networks with key internal and external stakeholders, client groups, duty holders and industry leaders to share information, identify on-going and emerging and issues and trends, and provide high level advice to the Operations Manager;
• Utilise departmental protocols, processes and systems to prioritise complaints and incidents and to assist with allocation of work such as investigations, complaints and assessments to other inspectors in an equitable manner within a team environment to achieve targets within set timeframes;
• Produce complex reports and conduct reviews of technical information arising out of serious workplace incidents, complaints and assessments;
• Take an active role in the professional development of inspectors in a field environment by mentoring, coaching and supervising their work activities, and providing guidance and performance management as required; and
• Model professional and ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the Queensland Public Service legislative framework and Code of Conduct.

Successful applicants must have or be able to acquire:

- A current driver's licence;
- Computer skills necessary to accurately and efficiently input and retrieve data and develop reports from relevant business systems.
