Established in 1945 from one man, one paddock, to the fourth generation - The Mackay Group is Australia’s Leading Banana Grower. From planting the first crop of bananas over 75years ago the farming business has expanded to produce bananas, papaya, sugarcane, cattle and avocados. The business is now directed by the family’s 3rd generation and the company employs more than 550 staff across 9 locations stretching from Cooktown to Brisbane. In more recent years this vertically integrated business has expanded into ripening and processing of produce.
About the Role:
This is a permanent full-time position assisting in operating and maintaining the sugarcane crop at our Warrami farm which is 600ha. The key duties will include:
- Ensuring that all company safety policies and procedures are carried out
- Assisting with maintaining crop production by cultivating and maintaining optimal growing
- Assist in leading all general farming activities, such as land preparation, fertilising and pest and weed control
- Maintaining farm buildings and fences
- Carrying out routine servicing and maintenance on all farm equipment
- Maintaining and evaluating records of farming activities including spray diaries and safety records
The key skills and competencies required:
- Minimum 3 years cane experience
- Ability to work autonomously
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
- Confident in leading a small team / supervision of staff
- Demonstrate problem solving skills
- Good communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
