Pay Rate: $60-$80k depending on experience. Open to negotiation for those with agronomy qualifications or MC truck licence along with Dryland Farming Exp

Our client runs an extensive Mixed Farming enterprise incorporating 6,000ha of dryland cultivation, 4,000 acres of background grazing land and a small private feedlot. They operate predominantly John Deere machinery, including tracked 9420 & 9410 tractors with Greenstar GPS systems and accompanying attachments typical of a farm of that size. All crops are stored and used on-site for the feedlot operation.
They have asked us to find them a Leading Hand who will act as a conduit between them and their young crew and who will also act as a mentor for the younger staff members. Due to the nature of their business, staff work across all aspects, so there will be livestock and farming work, depending on everyone’s skill set.
To be considered for this role, we will be looking for someone who brings the following skills to the table:-
- Broadacre, Dryland Cereal cropping experience – essential
- Livestock handling experience – essential
- Agronomy qualifications – desirable but not essential
- MC licence – very highly regarded
- Feedlot experience – desirable but not essential
- Chemical Cert – highly desirable
- Mechanical and fabrication aptitude
- Leadership skills
- High levels of communication
Using all these skills, your duties will include, but not limited to, the following:-
- Safe operation of all farming Machinery
- Help our client co-ordinate farming activities such as planting and harvest.
- Train and mentor less experienced staff, including casual labour
- Ensure compliance with all farm OH & S policies
- Muster trade cattle in background paddocks
- Help client with tasks in and around feedlot if required
- Undertake machinery servicing and maintenance
- Undertake routine repair and maintenance of all farming infrastructure
Our client has single accommodation on site, and family accommodation is available on another property if the successful candidate has a family. Our client supplies their staff with beef as part of their benefits package. After probation, our client offers either fuel for personal use or time-off instead of overtime. This would be an ideal role for someone to take a step up in the career to expand their responsibilities who is not yet ready for a leadership role. Our client is open to staff having pet or pig dogs on-site with prior approval and BYO cages.
