Job description

Applicants are invited to apply for a full-time contract position working in our Learning Enrichment department to support students in Years 6-12 with identified learning needs, including ASD and ADHD.

About the Role                              

This is a full-time position (5 days per week, term time) with a start date in July 2024 until the end of Semester 1, 2025. There may be the opportunity to extend after this time.

Reporting to the Head of Learning Enrichment 6-12, you will provide assistance to students with special learning needs and capabilities in order to optimise student learning outcomes. You will work in close collaboration with the classroom teacher, positively participating in activities, assisting, and encouraging students where appropriate. This may include individually or in small groups, with activities as part of inclusive teaching and learning practices, supporting teachers with behaviour management and the development of social skills and classroom skills development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Follow lesson plans using discretion and judgement. Be able to react to teaching situations by modifying procedures and practices to reflect individual needs so as to improve student outcomes.
  • Work with students to identify areas of concern and liaise with appropriate staff for follow-up action. Including using initiative to give advice on the differentiation of classwork and assessment tasks for students.
  • Understand student's background and relevant identified learning difficulties in order to provide assistance needed.
  • At all times, promote the self-esteem and well-being of learning support students.
  • Use our LMS for updating of Learning Enrichment databases, sourcing games/activities, preparing resources and research.
  • Assist teaching staff on excursions and sporting events (as required).

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience working in a learning support environment and with students on the ASD spectrum.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (i.e., Certificate III (or above) in Education Support and/or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Current clearance to work with children (Working With Children Check -WWCC).
  • Current First Aid Certificate (desirable).
  • Understanding of a range learning styles/challenges, including ASD and ADHD
  • A passion for the education and care for children and a strong desire to work within a collaborative environment.
  • The ability to promote a positive, nurturing and supportive environment where all are valued and facilitate an inclusive program that is tailored to the needs of the children and community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Broad knowledge of the learning difficulties/disabilities to ensure students receive appropriate adjustments and support.
  • Understanding of school and classroom procedures, including lesson plans and curriculum (Years 6-9) and to communicate this information to students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in ICT, ability to apply this knowledge in changing situations and supervise the students in the use and operation of devices and software.

Good Shepherd is a co-educational Prep to Year 12 Lutheran College that serves the families of the breathtakingly beautiful Noosa district on the Sunshine Coast.  Centrally located 130kms from the Brisbane CBD, Good Shepherd Lutheran College is situated on a 9.5hectare campus. The College has a total enrolment of approximately 1100 students.  Our College is part of the ministry of The Lutheran Church in Queensland and has strong ties to the Noosa Lutheran Parish.  Good Shepherd has built a recognised record of both academic success and Christian care.
