ABOUT THE ROLE

Vocational Education and Training (VET) at the University provides students with the skills they need to thrive. We provide career preparation and formal qualifications to specialise in a certain areas of work, to make a career change or as a pathway into higher education through the UNDA RTO. Our programs are flexible and structured so students can learn online, on-campus and in the field.

The Leaning Support Teacher (USIQ) will be responsible to deliver the course Underpinning Skills for Industry Qualification (USIQ) on the Broome campus the course is accredited and developed by the Western Australian Department of Training and Workforce Development to better enable and improve outcomes for students enrolled in vocational qualifications. The position reports to the Program Coordinator, School Based Education Support on a part time 0.4FTE arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design the course by selecting modules based on the requirements for competency in the vocational qualification and skills of the students. USIQ modules are designed to be clustered with each other as appropriate for the student cohort.
  • Facilitate the delivery of the USIQ course including, reporting on key measures that includes student module completion rates, students reporting satisfaction in relation to their performance and reporting that students, potentially at risk, are performing well.
  • Provide teaching support to students undertaking the USIQ vocational education and training programs, on an individual and small group basis through face-to-face, email and online contact.
  • Teach research skills and academic writing and communication skills to year 12 students undertaking Unipath.
  • Achieve compliance functions by conducting administration work and the preparation of documentation.
  • Facilitate and promote students learning independence, self-determination, positive self-esteem, health and wellbeing to understand the practical application of their learning.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree and diploma of education minimum of 3 years.
  • Diploma in TESOL (e.g. Dip SRA, Grad Dip TESOL) or a postgraduate diploma in applied linguistics, languages other than English (LOTE) or multicultural education.
    Teaching experience:
  • Specialised teaching experience in areas of Special education, Aboriginal education, literacy or numeracy education, TESOL and or Aboriginal English.
  • Additional alternative professional qualifications may include Social or Youth work, educational psychology, or speech therapy.
  • Current industry skills combined with an appropriate level of knowledge and skill relevant to the identified delivery area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of a vocational education and training environment combined with well-developed tutoring skills for individuals and groups with the ability to adapt to new technology and procedures as required.
    Desirable:
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to relate to a diverse range of students and staff, and work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
  • Proven problem-solving skills including initiative, flexibility and an ability to teacher/tutor small groups of students while meeting individual learning needs.
  • A demonstrated ability to coordinate, with minimal supervision, variable workloads, work schedules, set priorities, meet deadlines and carry out tasks in order to achieve desired outcomes.
