The School of Humanities provides a diverse intellectual environment with over 3500 students studying undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a range of Humanities disciplines. Staff in Classics and Ancient History teach Greek and Roman History, the History of Ancient Religions, Ancient Mythology, Ancient Sexualities, Reception Studies, and Ancient Greek and Latin. Where appropriate, staff in Classics and Ancient History contribute to other interdisciplinary areas within the School and across the University. For more information about the Classics and Ancient History programme and the current unit offerings please visit the following:About the opportunityAs the appointee you will undertake independent teaching and research in the area of Classics and Ancient History (Greek or Roman). This position will involve independent and team teaching in the areas of Classics and Ancient History at all undergraduate levels, including Honours. The appointee will be expected to enhance the area's recognised international reputation for excellence. You will teach into this programme, assist in the development of undergraduate units and participate in the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree candidates. As a balanced teaching and research position, the appointee is expected to have a track record of publication (relative to opportunity).To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:
- PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline (Classics and Ancient History) or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to the discipline
- Demonstrated ability to utilise innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for units and courses
- A demonstrable track record (relative to opportunity) of excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles, refereed book chapters, or academic mongraphs,
- Evidence of successful supervision or co-supervision of HDR (postgrad) students, relative to opportunity, or potential to supervise HDR students
- Demonstrable experience of participation in education/research leadership in public engagements that promote research and/or education outcome, government and industry
