About the opportunity:

UC is recruiting for a Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Science to join the Faculty of Health to undertake high-quality teaching and research. This is an exceptional opportunity to pursue scholarly advances in Vision Science and Optometry and contribute to the advancement and growth in this field.

As a Lecturer at the University of Canberra, you will be expected to:

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, workshops, and clinical sessions.
  • Undertake Unit and Course coordination as required.
  • Promote and support excellence in disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities and scholarship.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external and professional stakeholders.
  • Collaboratively develop curricula with Optometry colleagues and ensure to meet accreditation requirements.
  • Provide student support and guidance
  • Contributing to high-quality research supervision for postgraduate and higher degree research students.
  • Enhance a track record in collaborative, multidisciplinary research through publications and grants. (in alignment with our research plan),
About you:

The successful applicant will have:

  • PhD in optometry or a related field (completed or near completion).
  • Registration with AHPRA as an optometrist in Australia (desirable but not essential).
  • Endorsement to prescribe ocular therapeutic drugs in Australia (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience teaching and/or expertise in optometry and Vision Science, (ideally within optics, low vision, binocular vision, and/or environmental optometry).
  • Capacity and commitment to contribute to traditional and flexible modes of academic program development and delivery, including online.
  • Emerging track record in research with high-quality and high-impact outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession, industry and attract funding.
