The Legal, Compliance, and Quality (LCQ) Department at Novo Nordisk Oceania is devoted to ensuring legal and regulatory compliance in our operations. We provide legal counsel and support in areas such as corporate law, compliance, intellectual property, and more. Our team works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that our activities, policies, and business practices comply with all relevant laws and regulations. This role will report to the Director of Legal, Compliance, and Quality Oceania.The position
As a Legal and Compliance Graduate/Counsel, you will be in charge of providing legal advice, support, and counselling to the business on a broad spectrum of judicious and practical projects within a highly regulated environment. Your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Provide solution-focused and pragmatic legal advice on a range of issues, including contract interpretation and compliance with laws and regulations. Offer practical, solution-oriented legal assistance to Novo Nordisk's internal clients during contract preparation and negotiation.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage a high volume and wide variety of contracts, including services, supply, speaker, and advisory board agreements. Additionally, review and approve promotional and advertising materials in accordance with pharmaceutical laws and regulations, including the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
  • Provide counsel on all compliance matters related to the Business Ethics Code of Conduct, including Third Party Risk Assessment, Gifts & Entertainment, HCP (Healthcare Professional) transfer of value reporting, and Contract Management.
  • Assist in the development of legal templates, training materials, and relevant sections of the legal department's intranet site to train and upskill internal clients. Manage quarterly and yearly sanctions screening and Business Ethics Code of Conduct attestation activities across the affiliate.
  • Engage and liaise with compliance and internal audit teams at all levels of the affiliate on updates and related business matters, regulatory compliance developments, policies, standards, procedures, initiatives, risks, KPIs, etc. Ensure business policies and standards are maintained, updated, visible, and accessible to all employees. Conduct periodic testing and monitoring of regulatory compliance controls (adherence to policies and regulations) and recommend effective improvements.
Qualifications
  • A law degree from a reputable Australian university, along with Medicines Australia Code of Conduct certification, is a plus.
  • With 2-4 years of experience, preferably from a mix of law firm and in-house environments within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical devices industries.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion and judgment.
  • Knowledge and interest in pharmaceutical and related laws and regulations, such as Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism, Anti-Competitive Behaviour, Modern Slavery, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply these regulations effectively.
  • Must either be an Australian Citizen or have a current residency Visa to live and work in Australia.
