Primary Objective:
The primary role of a commercial law Legal Counsel in a private organization is to ensure legal compliance while maximizing commercial interests, protect legal interests, and promote commercial goals. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, assessing legal risks, drafting contracts, offering departmental Legal Counsel, and dispute resolution. By staying abreast of legal developments and advising on corporate governance, the counsel helps the organization navigate legal complexities for sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
We seek an enthusiastic and diligent Legal Counsel to join the legal team at Hazeldenes. Based in Bendigo, Hazeldenes is a chicken processor which has been operating for more than 80 years and has recently become part of a broader investment portfolio group of companies spanning different industries.
Reporting to the General Counsel the role entails a wide range of responsibilities, working with key areas of the business to provide commercially pragmatic advice. Some key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial agreements.
- Managing issues or mitigating risks arising from contractual arrangements.
- Working alongside the HR team, advising on and managing employment law matters.
- Analysing laws impacting the business and advising on their application.
- Assisting in developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures.
- Collaborating with external Legal Counsel in handling litigation matters.

About you:
- 1-4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably within the FMCG industry or related field.
- Sound understanding of commercial law.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, along with an ability to show initiative, are highly valued.
- Ability to work collaboratively with commercial stakeholders and communicate effectively.
- Self-Starter, Legal Expertise, Commercial Acumen, Communication Skills, Negotiation Skills, Ethical Integrity, Adaptability and Resilience.
