A full-time permanent position in the Collections team leading the development, maintenance and coordination of the Legal Heritage and rare books collections has become vacant at Supreme Court Library Queensland (SCLQ).

The Legal Heritage Collection Coordinator reports to the Principal Librarian Collections and is responsible for maintaining the management, preservation, and discovery of the library’s Legal Heritage and rare books collections and undertaking research for exhibitions and displays of heritage items.

Scope of the role
  • Oversee all functions undertaken by the Legal Heritage work group, and provide high quality professional guidance to support staff in developing their knowledge and skills
  • Develop, manage and maintain the Legal Heritage Collection database, including cataloguing and enriching collection description 
  • Coordinate activities to manage and improve the library’s physical Legal Heritage Collection, including collection arrangement and description, appraisals, storage, condition reporting, and preventative conservation
  • Develop, manage and expand the library’s digital Legal Heritage Collection including digitisation of physical items for online discovery and access
  • Review and update collections documentation to track items and their locations
  • Develop and maintain appropriate systems, policies and procedures that support best practice Heritage Collections management
  • Create, review and manage disaster prevention and response plans and materials
  • Appraise incoming donations, transfers and gifts, manage associated documentation and process accepted materials
  • Research, design and deliver Legal Heritage displays and associated didactics and assist with the research, design and delivery of exhibitions
  • Identify ways to showcase collection materials via permanent and temporary displays 
  • Assess material for displays and exhibitions, and coordinate rotations using museum best practice 
  • Work collaboratively with curators, lending institutions and private lenders and donors to source material for exhibitions and collection displays, and process and manage incoming and outgoing loans in accordance with museum best practice
  • Manage access to Legal Heritage materials for internal and external bodies
  • Identify discovery and access initiatives to improve customer experience and engagement with the Legal Heritage Collections, including social media, online displays and events, delivering talks and preparing articles
  • Prepare and deliver tours of the collections to groups and individuals
  • Provide research and materials for marketing and other SCLQ materials
  • Respond to research requests and other information needs in a timely and efficient manner
  • Plan, organise and conduct research for heritage projects, collection displays and other events
  • Identify relevant funding and grant opportunities for archiving and Heritage Collections
  • Seek out and maintain professional relationships with internal and external clients including members of the GLAM sector, legal profession, researchers, and library users
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the library by developing and maintaining strong partnerships with colleagues, business units, and industry peers, and seeking feedback, raising concerns and generating solutions 
  • Provide assistance and support to the Leadership Team and SCLQ as a whole by fostering our ‘One library’ culture through duties as required and participation in relevant SCLQ working groups, internal committees and project teams

Remuneration starts at $88,698 annual full-time salary (plus leave loading and superannuation). Working conditions are flexible and family friendly.
