The role
The UX Researcher plans and coordinates user research and evaluation activities to generate insights about the needs and experiences of the users of Library products, platforms and services. These insights guide evidence-based decision-making and ensure alignment with library client needs and expectations.
Utilising various UX research methods and tools, the role devises practical solutions that maximise the usefulness and usability of library offerings, products, services and systems. As a key member of the Experience Design team, the UX Researcher formulates work plans and strategies that support a user-focused approach to library experiences.
The ideal candidate will have experience engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders and groups, and the ability to clearly communicate their findings and deliver information in a way that connects with stakeholders and peers. The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and have exceptional communication skills.

As a UX Researcher you will:
- Plan and prioritise work and critical activities appropriately and recognise barriers to achieving outcomes, finds effective ways to deal with them and evaluates progress.
- Implement User Experience (UX) strategies and frameworks and services that enable or support superior user experiences and effective engagement.
- Build new and productive relationships with a diverse range of potential students, stakeholders or key and influential individuals both inside and outside the Library.
- Research, plan, visualise, define, and design new library experiences that deliver in multi-channel environments.
- Challenge existing processes by formulating creative and inclusive alternative solutions and benefits. Promote solutions to modernise work practices and ensure alignment with Deakin’s strategic direction.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields.
- Extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience using UX tools, techniques, and methodologies to undertake research and usability evaluation, and capture, report and present actionable insights. Experience working with the Dovetail platform will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in applying Design Thinking methods.
- Experience working with analytic tools such as Google Analytics.
