Your new role
Reporting to the Field Supervisor, based from our Homebush depot, you will be an electrically qualified field worker, primarily involved in the construction, repair and maintenance of our overhead network assets to ensure the safety, reliability, sustainability and affordability for customers. 

You will safely undertake work to the approved standards of quality, cost and time, ensuring safety remains the primary focus at all times by inspecting, installing and/or maintaining overhead network infrastructure and electrical equipment such as structures, associated hardware, overhead conductors, cables and other electrical apparatus. You will work safely near live electrical apparatus as well as operating plant and equipment, near live electrical conductors and apparatus.

Key responsibilities

  • Competently use basic hand and power operated power tools and equipment
  • Use, interpret and apply drawings, basic diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • Perform low voltage heat shrink terminations and switching operations
  • Prepare work site and equipment to enable safe completion of work
  • Participate in assessment and preparation of job site for upcoming work
  • Liaise with key internal and external contacts such as customers and contractors
  • Support the resolution of customer complaints
  • Use ropes, knots, splices and slings safely
  • Participate in emergency restoration work
  • Effectively utilise computers and/or mobile devices for the completion of safety and other required documentation

To be successful, you will be qualified/experienced in the following:

  • Qualified Line Worker– Cert III in ESI Power Systems (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in an electrical trade role within the electricity distribution or related industry including experience in line work
  • Class MR drivers licence
  • Electrical Safety Rules accreditation and other relevant statutory training
  • High Risk Work Licences (HRWL) – multiple such as  Elevated Work Platform and Dogging 
  • Confined Space Training
  • WH&S WorkCover – General Induction
  • Asbestos awareness and experience working safely with asbestos materials related to line work
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations and procedures such as safe working practices, network standards and codes of practice
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of safe manual handling techniques
  • Basic skills in the use of computers and mobile devices Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating with others
  • Proven capability to work effectively within a team or work crew
  • Competence in the use of explosive power tools
