About StandBy Support After Suicide
The StandBy Support After Suicide Service is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to supporting people and communities affected by suicide. StandBy was established in 2002 by Youturn Limited and currently operates in numerous communities across Australia. StandBy has considerable experience in the provision of postvention support in a range of communities and contexts and is nationally and internationally recognised.

The Opportunity:
Join our team as the Lived Experience Development and Advocacy Lead and take on a vital role in advocating for the operationalisation of StandBy’s commitment that Lived Experience of suicide bereavement is central to all we do. You will provide guidance via the Lived Experience Advisory Group, maintain key sector relationships, and advocate for the importance of Lived Experience in co-designing effective services.
Some of your other key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the Lived Experience Advisory Group and implement the StandBy Lived Experience Framework.
- Document and develop processes ensuring Lived Experience input in resources and supports.
- Create and manage learning materials about Lived Experience of grief and loss.
- Promote StandBy’s impact and advocate for Lived Experience in service design.
- Consult with Community Partners to include Lived Experience voices.
- Provide updates on trends in grief and loss through suicide bereavement.
- Develop and coordinate learning materials for Community Partners.
- Engage individuals who have participated in StandBy supports.
This is a 6-month max term position with possibility of extension
This is a remote opportunity with the option to work from home or our Maroochydore office or a combination of both
Selection Criteria:
- Lived experience of suicide bereavement or close relationship to someone who has died by suicide (this is a requirement).
- Understanding of and experience in suicide service provision, bereavement, trauma, grief, and loss.
- Completed or willing to complete Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and/or Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is desired, however successful applicant will be supported to obtain
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
- Growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
Other Requirements:
- Current ‘C’ class driver licence.
- Eligibility for a working with Children Check.
