A Local Laws/Animal Management Officer contract has become available within a local government organisation in the outer south eastern suburbs. This is a temporary role for around 3 months with possibility of extension for the right candidate. Pay rate is between $41 - 43 per hour, plus super.
In the day to day you will;
- Provide enforcement services with respect of parking and traffic, local laws, litter, building sites, planning matters and animal management.
- Issue infringements in line with appropriate act references sufficient to stand the test of an open court hearing.
- Oversee the transfer of manually issued infringement on to suitable database
- Assess applications for Local Law permits and make suitable recommendations
- Undertake pro-active patrols of the municipality.
- Investigate alleged breaches of the planning controls, including non-compliance with Town Planning.
- Collect and present evidence in infringement and prosecution proceedings at the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and Magistrate Court hearings.
To be successful you will
- Have demonstrated working knowledge of relevant legislation (ie Domestic Animals Act, VCAT, EPA, Road rules Victoria, Local Government Act etc) and ability to interpret and enforce the above legislation and other local laws. Prior local government experience is highly desirable.
- Highly developed customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to deal humanely with stock and other animals in order to address public safety and animal cruelty issues
- A current Victorian Drivers License and ability to obtain a National Crime Check
