An Asphalt Worker is responsible for the application and repair of asphalt on roads, driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces. The role involves preparing surfaces, operating machinery, and ensuring the quality and safety of all asphalt projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Set up forms and other necessary infrastructure.
Level surfaces to prepare for paving.
Asphalt Application:
Pour, spread, and level asphalt using rakes, shovels, and other tools.
Operate equipment such as asphalt pavers, rollers, and milling machines.
Monitor material temperature and ensure proper mixture.
Machinery Operation:
Operate various types of heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
Ensure machinery is properly calibrated and functioning.
Quality Control:
Inspect the work site and the final product to ensure it meets project specifications and standards.
Identify and correct issues such as rough patches or improper drainage.
Safety:
Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow company and regulatory guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with other construction professionals including laborers, foremen, and project managers.
Communicate effectively to ensure project efficiency and resolve any issues.
Documentation:
Maintain records of work performed and materials used.
Report any incidents or project updates to supervisors.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in asphalt paving or related construction work preferred.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating asphalt and construction machinery.
Strong understanding of asphalt properties and application techniques.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.
Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 30kg).
Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, and bending.
Exposure to loud noises, dust, and extreme temperatures.
Work Environment:
Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Exposure to hazardous materials and equipment.
Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.

Pay ranging from $36-41 an hour
