About The Role
This role lead’s the Approvals function in NSW.
Reporting to General Manager Approvals, the position will manage and deliver environment approvals and regulatory engagement strategies across New South Wales to support the delivery of the WHC business strategy.
The position will be responsible for the strategic management of regulatory requirements through ongoing review and communication within the business
This role can be based in our Sydney, Newcastle, or Gunnedah office.
What You’ll Do
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership in the workplace through leading by example, fostering WH&S awareness among staff, managing risk, and promoting continuous improvements in the area of safety while working towards the company goal of “zero harm”.
- Implements the Company Wide Strategy to gain approvals to meet company development and growth.
- Technical lead on processes involved with obtaining necessary environmental approvals, and be a subject matter expert on State and Federal regulatory processes, and manage stakeholder engagement with external regulators and Group Legal to ensure alignment with regulator and community expectations
- Responsible for managing the delivery of approvals where engineering design is not required.
- Provides support to the delivery of approvals where engineering design and construction is required.
- Effectively manages projects to meet agreed project timeframes, and provide subject matter expertise to operations for license and permit renewals and modifications as required
- Responsible for modifications and post approvals for all SSD & EPBC approvals, and keep abreast of changes to all relevant legislation industry codes or best practices in relation to environmental activities.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Risk, Engineering, Science, Environmental Science, Applied Science or other suitable qualification
- Extensive experience in HSE roles and heavy industry / mining is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to engage and influence large and diverse teams at multiple levels in the organisation focusing on customer requirements, with the ability to work autonomously
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Ability to work effectively across organisational boundaries at different organisational levels
