The Role
The purpose of this role will be responsible for the Internal Audit program and the coordination and management of the Waverley Audit and Risk Improvement Committee (ARIC) and leads the program of initiatives relating to Council’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Fraud and Corruption Control Framework.
The position is also responsible for the general management and oversight of Councils insurance program and claims management, strategic security management and the Business Continuity Management Framework, and providing leadership and expertise across the organisation to build Council’s capacity to manage risk at a best practice level.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Council’s risk-based internal Audit Program in conjunction with the Internal Auditor.
- Oversee the coordination and management of Council’s Audit Risk and Improvement Committee members.
- Lead the program of initiatives and activities relating to Council’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Review and monitor Council’s risk profile and ensure all legislative obligations are met in relation to risk.
- Provide expert advice to the Executive Leadership Team, managers, and staff to build organisational capacity to manage enterprise risk management.
- Support the Executive Leadership Team with the identification and ongoing management of Strategic Risks and associated controls.
- Build a proactive risk-aware culture across Council to embed the identification and management of risks into Council’s operations and maximise opportunities.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience
- Experience working at a senior management level with a record of achievement in enterprise risk management
- Ability to exercise flexibility and responsiveness to ensure a wide range of complex demands and challenges are dealt with efficiently and effectively, and collaborative relationships are developed
- Confidence to provide consultative expertise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and balancing needs and competing demands
- Balancing expectations, budget constraints, and government requirements in a politically sensitive environment
