SAFA plays an integral role in the overall management of the State Government's finances and risks, harnessing economies of scale and relevant expertise in wholesale financial markets and insurance markets to provide a range of treasury, insurance and vehicle fleet management services to public sector clients, set by its strategic direction.Job Description:The Manager, Claims Services, is responsible for leading the delivery of claims management services for the South Australian Government, including the management of the staff of SAFA’s Claims Section and the provision of specialist advice and guidance to public sector agencies on matters relating to the government’s captive insurance arrangements.
The role oversees a book of complex, highly sensitive liability claims and high value property claims, including providing instructions to solicitors on the conduct of matters that are the subject of legal proceedings. The position supports the business in the determination of acceptance of liability, claims investigation (including engaging and supervising external investigators), the negotiation of claim settlements and recovery of claim losses from reinsurers.
The Manager, Claims Services also oversees the South Australian Government’s liabilities to the National Redress Scheme in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, as well as the claims book attached to the SAFA owned vehicle fleet, consisting of 7,000 vehicles.The role reports to the Director, Insurance and Fleet and works collaboratively SAFA’s Insurance Services team to assist in the delivery of high quality services to customers.
The Manager, Claims Services is required to build productive relationships with SAFA’s Insurance customers and stakeholders, including government agencies and statutory authorities, as well as loss adjusters, external and internal solicitors (including Managing Counsel and Deputy Crown Solicitors), insurance brokers and actuaries, as well as other service providers and other divisions within the South Australian Government Financing Authority.Desirable Requirements:Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g. Associate member of the Australian Insurance Institute or equivalent professional membership and relevant post graduate qualification.Special conditions:Some out of hours work and intrastate and interstate travel may be required. The incumbent will be required to participate in the Departmental Performance Management Program. The incumbent may be required to be assigned to other positions at the same remuneration level across the department.
