Your Opportunity

As the Manager Commercial Product, you will:

  • Manage and lead Commercial Product design and development and related projects and programs while fostering an environment and culture that values innovation and continual improvement.  
  • Engage with stakeholders and manage and extend the relationships of TAFE Queensland with industry and other government departments to support business development related to funded and fee for service commercial projects and product opportunities.
  • Be responsible for the end to end delivery of significant and major projects for TAFE Queensland and ensure the achievement of milestones, deliverables and outcomes that align with TAFE Queensland’s strategic and operational objectives. 

This position reports to the Director TAFE Queensland Product Agency within the Chief Academic Office..

This is a Temporary, Full-time opportunity, to 20 September 2024 unless otherwise determined.

The position location is flexible based on the successful candidate, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute high-level project management skills to manage the end-to-end delivery of TAFE Queensland commercial projects, including highly developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills to gather and compile information, develop reports to inform decision making and recommendations.
  • Provide specialist and strategic advice relating to the design and creation of educational strategies that align with client needs in the areas of accredited qualifications, non-accredited training programs including micro-credentials and assessment strategies. 
  • Lead, implement and execute significant, high value project plans for major clients to ensure the achievement of required milestones and outcomes and actively contribute to the development implementation and monitoring of project plans and schedules, including the oversight and management of project activities associated with achieving the TAFE Queensland Commercial Project objectives. 
  • Contribute to the successful implementation and delivery of significant, complex and varied projects, including responsibility for financial and business performance, stakeholder engagement at a state, national and international level and working productively across complex educational, industry, community and government networks. 
  • Manage the effective deployment of staff and resources within agreed budget parameters to accommodate operational needs of TAFE Queensland at an organisational level and any emerging priorities to ensure high levels of client service delivery and achievement of revenue targets for the Commercial Projects area.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation and delivery of significant, complex and varied projects, including responsibility for financial and business performance, stakeholder engagement at a state, national and international level and working productively across complex educational, industry, community and government networks.
  • Be responsible for building positive, long term working relationships with external and internal stakeholders to drive successful outcomes of commercial projects on behalf of TAFE Queensland.  
  • Manage the catalogue of TAFE Queensland’s accredited courses including leading regular reviews, revisions and updates of courses with internal and external stakeholders, licensees, employers, communities and industry to ensure they are current, aligned with industry needs and optimised student outcomes. . 
  • Lead the development of proposals, submissions tenders and commercial projects in liaison with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality and fit-for-purpose project outcomes, alignment with the product strategy and the achievement of revenue outcomes for the Commercial Projects team. 
  • Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative, and Safety First. 

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

1. Demonstrated high level of analytical, conceptual and innovative problem solving skills including the ability to independently research, analyse, develop and recommend options and implement solutions to enhance business performance and contribute to strategic, business and revenue objectives. 

2. Proven conceptual, analytical, technical and innovative problem solving skills to effectively manage resources and deliver sustainable, flexible, responsive, customer-focussed solutions within timeframes and budget expectations.

3. Demonstrated specialised expertise and experience across vocational education course design and development including accredited and non-accredited training programs in a highly competitive commercial environment.  

4. Demonstrated ability to provide innovative and strategic leadership and organisational capability development, promoting a positive culture, innovation, productivity and wellness within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.

5. Proven ability to identify and address customer problems through the development of cost effective, innovative and creative solutions within timeframes, objectives, revenue and quality requirements.

6. High level interpersonal and communication skills required to sustain productive stakeholder relationships and to work collaboratively with executives, staff and diverse stakeholders, both internal and external to TAFE Queensland to achieve commercial outcomes for the business.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Minimum of five years experience at management level within the vocational education sector in a large, complex educational organisation. 
  • Project management or business qualifications at Certificate IV level or above with demonstrated experience in managing significant projects.
