Role Description
The role of Manager - Community Dental Service is to work in collaboration with Bendigo Health staff, Dental Health Services Victoria, La Trobe University, external service providers and stakeholders, the Dental Service Leadership Team and staff engaged in the Service. The Manager will:
- Provide operational leadership, direction and innovation to the CDS, ensuring a high quality of service and integration with other internal and external services to the organisation.
- Ensure that services are provided in a manner consistent with Bendigo Health's Strategic Directions and the Oral Health Strategic and Service Plan detailed by Dental Health Services Victoria.
- Work in partnership with LRHS DOH to deliver the agreed items of the Student Placement Agreement and efficient operations within the teaching clinic, ensuring a clinical placement agreement is signed with the University.
- Participate in organisational projects, portfolio responsibilities and service development as required, this includes the developing role of Bendigo Health CDS within the region.
- Provide clinical and professional leadership ensuring standards of care are developed, maintained and continually improved in line with evidence based practice and research.
- Ensure high quality clinical care is provided within a public dental context; ensuring clinicians and students maintain high standards of service provision, in line with current clinical practices and protocols.
- In partnership with the Community Dental Leadership Team identify and implement any areas of clinical improvement required.
- Develop, implement and continually improve a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Manage department resources within budget allocation, encompassing human, financial and environmental resources.
- Monitor, manage and report departmental performance and activity levels.
- Develop and maintain processes and systems which lead to improved service integration, efficiencies and better client outcomes.
- Monitor and manage staff recruitment, orientation, performance and development, including succession planning.
- In conjunction with Allied Health and Continuing Care leadership complete business planning for the CDS in line with the Bendigo Health strategic plan, and review and report on progress.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of relevant award, legislative requirements and health industry developments.
- Ensure the safe operation and cleanliness of all clinical equipment according to relevant standards.
- Participate in the implementation of health promotion programs as appropriate.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities for research within the CDS.
- Undertake, or participate in a projects relating to the delivery of public Dental Services.
- Along with other members of the team act as a consultant to the community on matters relating to Dental Services.
- Maintain professional skills relevant to the position.
The Team
Community Dental Services (CDS) is a 33 dental chair clinic that provides quality emergency, general, denture and preventative dental care for members of the Bendigo and surrounding community. Of the 33 CDS dental chairs, fifteen are serviced by Bendigo Health staff and the Dental Teaching Clinic (DTC) consists of eighteen chairs that are operated in partnership with the La Trobe University Rural Health School Department of Dentistry and Oral Health (LRHS DOH). Our innovative oral health team consists of dentists, oral health therapists, dental prosthetists, oral health educators, clinical academic educators (Dentists, oral health therapists and specialists), supervised dental and oral health students and a range of support personnel. The CDS is primarily funded by Dental Health Services Victoria to provide general and emergency oral health care within the scope of publicly funded Dental Services. CDS is also involved in preventative oral health initiatives including an active schools and early years outreach program. CDS delivers services from the Clinical Services Campus and at various outreach sites.
