About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision of contemporary Data Analysis and data integrity that enhances service delivery and policy development across MCV.
Proactively initiate and maintain strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, resolving complex data sets and information and negotiating effective outcomes to achieve project reporting.
Lead the development of automation processes, including quantifying the benefits from the implementation of such schemes
Develop pertinent commentary to provide business insights into the data and disseminate these to diverse internal and external audiences.
Plan and manage the transition of key operational reports as MCV embeds a new Case Management System.
Manage the ongoing support and management of the technical elements of the Central Information Point (CIP) a critical government-wide application designed to share family violence information.
Collate data from the data warehouse which underpins MCV performance reports, ad-hoc analyses and other BI products, using applications such as SQL Management Studio and, PowerBI.
Ensure the Court has a modern, secure and fit-forpurpose data storage environment
Liaise with senior stakeholders to ensure reports, commentary, analyses and BI products are accurate, topical and accessible to a broad range of consumers.
Build MCV's forecasting capability, allowing the court to understand future demands on the Court and how changes in practice or policy will impact the ability to maintain workload
Document relevant business rules and counting rules, as well as developing and maintaining an issues-log that will support continuous system improvements.

About you
Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team and developing their skills and knowledge to ensure the team provide credible, authoritative and well-evidenced advice.
Proven ability to form collaborative relationships, work across teams and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
Data modelling expertise, qualifications and experience in data analytics.
Ability to build capability within an organisation and learn and use new techniques and technologies as they are adapted.
Demonstrated ability to craft data insights derived from reports and performance metrics, preferably in a Courts or criminal justice context.
Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of documentation relevant to Reporting and Business Intelligence, including but not limited to detailing business and counting rules, issues logs and similar.
Proficiency in data modelling, writing T-SQL queries and moderate level of experience and interest in data science and statistical modelling techniques.
Deep understanding of the PowerBI platform and of data visualisation, especially in the areas of user-driven dashboards and transition toward self-service analytics.
