The Opportunity
The Regulation Directorate sits within the Transport Policy and Regulation Division and is responsible for driving the Government’s regulation and policy initiatives and by regulating people and vehicles, ensures improved road safety outcomes, and the protection of transport users and the public.
The Vehicle Operations Section undertakes varying functions that contribute to this important work including vehicle inspection, Vehicle Engineering services and Standards, delivery of the Vehicle Identity Assessment Station (VIDAS) and Accident Towing Authority.
As the Manager, Vehicle Engineering and Standards, you will be accountable for leadership of the Vehicle Engineering and Standard Unit and providing specialist engineering input into the development, implementation, and evaluation of national policies and initiatives relevant to the Vehicle Operations Section. You will resolve road Vehicle Engineering issues and provide expert advice on the interpretation and application of Australian Design Rules, manufacturer specifications, and international standards. Key responsibilities include managing vehicle standards research, developing entry standards and audit programs, and ensuring the successful resolution of complex issues with innovative solutions.

Requirements
To be eligible for appointment to this role, the candidate will require a degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and have extensive expertise in working with vehicle technical standards.
Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department, the successful candidate will be required to provide:
  • This role is classified as a position of trust.
  • A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
  • The location is at Kateena Street, Regency Park.
  • Interstate and/or intrastate travel involving overnight absences and work outside normal hours and at weekends may be required.
Remuneration
PO4 - $109,060 to $118,690 per annum
