The Role

As the Managing Editor for Vanguard Publishing, you will be responsible for overseeing our annual calendar of publishing projects, managing the creation of content and design for each, from start to finish. 

You will work closely alongside our existing and new clients to produce captivating publications, including magazines, visitor guides and holiday planners, which act as authentic marketing tools for their brands. 

As part of a small publishing team, you will be responsible for managing a pool of freelance writers and designers, coordinating the complete creative process for our stream of publications. With a creative brain and strong editorial skills, you will be capable of drafting curated content plans and ensuring, for each project, the collection of content comes together to form a cohesive publication, consistent in style and tone. 

The role will also extend to managing our digital content, including social media, EDMs, blogs and website content.

Key responsibilities include:

• Project management — direct client engagement, coordination of the creative team and working alongside our sales director to ensure advertising and content work cohesively. 
• Content creation — long and short-format content and copywriting for a range of publications and platforms.   
• Editing — ensuring content is consistent in tone and style, in line with our clients’ brand, and appropriate for their target audiences.  
• Strategic branding — adding value to our clients’ marketing arsenals through strategic thinking and consultation.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone with a passion for content, a natural way with words, and a keen eye for detail to join the team at Vanguard Publishing as the Managing Editor. Someone who is self-motivated, takes initiative and work both autonomously and as a team would be suitable for this role. 

We’re open to applications from senior editors or content marketers capable of growing the role, as well as junior editors or content marketers capable of growing into the role. 

Required skills:

• Project management: strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work to deadlines and manage timelines. 
• A master of words and the English language, which you can use to create compelling content.  
• A strategic thinker with strong planning skills.
• Editing: attention to detail and an eye for design. 
• Ideally the ability to use InDesign and Adobe Suite. 

Qualifications & experience:

• Qualifications in Journalism, Media and Communications, Professional Writing and Publishing, Marketing, or a related field.
• 4+ years’ experience as a journalist or content writer. 
• Experience in social media management is desirable but not essential.
