Reports to: Director

Position description:
To operate and manage Mixmag Australia/NZ, schedule and manage writers and stories on a weekly basis, create and plan news, features, and other editorial content, implementing and offering analysis on viewership results of articles.

Mixmag Australia/NZ is more than just a publication – it's a platform for connection and collaboration. It’s a community of music lovers, DJs, producers, promoters, and industry insiders who come together to celebrate the universal language of electronic music.

General Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining the Mixmag Australia/NZ website and overseeing all editorial and final copy of Mixmag Australia/NZ; articles from freelance writers, social media, client campaigns, flyers/event information, newsletter.
2. Scheduling and managing writers and stories on a weekly basis, with an ideal scope of 2-3 months ahead.
3. Assist with coordinating social media content in relation to the site content. e.g. plugging captions on the social media calendar for features and in-depth stories
a. Communicate with the Social Media Team, and seek confirmation and approval for any discrepancies or sensitive issues that may arise from a decision about direction
and final assets before publishing
b. The general scope of where editorial and social media assets crossover include: social media captions, IG stories, IG feed posts, short video captions. These assets may require copy proofing or fresh writing from time to time.
4. Day-to-day tasks for Mixmag Australia/NZ:
a. Creating and planning for news, features and other editorial content to be
published on the website. This requires the Freelance Contractor to manage the ‘Content Bible’ as the primary planner for Editorial, Socials and Client based content. It is advised to only plan for certain content strands to allow resources and capacity for timely and breaking stories.
b. Weekend tasks are greatly reduced, and can mostly be prepared in advance, but the occasional urgent requirement may be requested for. The work scope requires being available throughout the week according to scheduled content.
c. Additional routine tasks involve setting new objectives and targets around
editorial content and practices for the team. In addition to the core routine tasks outlined below
d. The Freelance Contractor’s routine should also include team building, writing improvement, training, brainstorming and overall leadership of the site’s editorial agenda.
e. Core regular tasks include:
i.2 x Features per month (1 x long-form, 1 x short-form e.g. photo gallery feature)
ii.Feature topics must be outlined on the Content Bible and approved by the Director
iii.Ensure no less than two Original News Stories per Day (10 per week) are published to the site, with a minimum of 1 x Australia/NZ News Story per day
iv.Unless there is urgent /breaking news to be published, weekends are reserved for Global Stories which are re-published from www.mixmag.net to the Australia/NZ site
v.News topics must be outlined on the Content Bible and approved by the Director
vi.Up to 12 edits per week (from contributors/freelancers)
vii.The Editorial Assistant can receive support from the Director and Editorial staff during busy periods
viii.Manage the weekly email newsletter (average of 3-5 entries)
1. Update email entries provided by the team, and the
Director
2. Actively update the Newsletter email database
ix.Keep the website tidy and updated
f. The Freelance Contractor is expected to offer ideas and suggestions during
discussions and brainstorming sessions, Internal Campaigns for Mixmag Australia,
i.Internal campaigns include generating copy for announcements, events, concepts and products
ii.External/Client campaigns for Mixmag Australia/NZ
The Freelance Contractor is expected to be available and deliver assets for client-based campaigns that may include
i.Native Editorial, Franchisable Content, Press Releases
ii.Where the scope of work is significantly greater than the
expected hours of The Freelance Contractor’s role, additional
compensation may be considered, and would be based on the client
budget procured for the campaign
5. Analysis
a. The Freelance Contractor will be responsible for implementing and offering
analysis on viewership results of articles.
i.Analysis is a regular task that should be performed without question, and reported regularly to the Director
b. The Freelance Contractor is expected to grow the site stats (new users followers & user retention) through understanding and planning necessary and meaningful content, with a result-orientated outlook and system in place (includes reporting milestones and new strategies to the Director)
6. Overall team contribution and communication:
a. Be available for leading weekly team calls to discuss the week ahead.
b. Offer suggestions and support to team members if a situation arises
c. To work closely with the Director on campaigns e.g. taking the lead on key
features required by the client or overseeing assigning writers with paid content
d. To build your own routine and work schedule around the requirements of
Mixmag Australia/NZ (as per above)
e. Seeking potential revenue-generating opportunities for Mixmag Australia/NZ out of good faith in your role.
 

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years real-world work experience, with a high skill set in leadership, communications, copywriting, editing and proofreading. Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure and adapt on the go to meet close deadlines. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize tasks efficiently, and process and handle confidential information with absolute discretion. Ability to work on multiple priority-competing tasks and projects at the same time.
Familiarity with excel.
