About the role
As the Chief Engineer, you are responsible for the management of the ships engineering department including the safe, efficient and sustainable operation and maintenance of the engine room, material handling plant, machinery and ship’s equipment. The vessel is a 110m self-discharging bulk ore carrier.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering team for;
- The safe and economic management of all engineering aspects of the vessel
- The operation and maintenance of the engine room, material handling plant, machinery and all ships equipment
- Assisting the Company with the formulation of dry-docking specifications
- The operation and maintenance of all accommodation services
- Authorise and supervise the transfer of all hydrocarbon bunkers, i.e. fuels and oils
- Conduct engineering surveys where applicable and permitted
- Inform the Master of any deficiencies or failures which may affect the operation of the vessel
- Organise and conduct engine room watches
- Maintain and update ships computerised planned maintenance system
- Ensure the department operates and adheres to all client policies and procedures while conducting maintenance alongside
- Ensure your department operates in accordance with P&O Maritime Safety Management System policies and procedures, Ship Specific Procedures and OH&S including the shoreside workshop
- Manage ordering and receipt of engine room stores and spare parts
- Mentor, coach and develop your team
- Organising and supervising engineering contractors
- Attend Committee of Management and Master’s Review meetings and other safety and operational meetings as required
- Promote compliance with safe and sustainable work practices
- Compliance with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
Qualifications & Experience
- Fluent in English (mandatory)
- marine Engineer Class 1
- Confined Space, Atmosphere Testing and Working at Heights training
- First Aid and CPR training
- COST – Certificate of Safety Training
- Proficient with Word, Excel and general computer skills.
- Current unrestricted Australian motor vehicle license
Remuneration & Benefits
The employment benefits package is salary plus super, 3 week on, 3 week off roster. This position will initially be on a casual basis with a view to permanency for the right candidate.
