The Role
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for d design and integration of Mechanical Equipment, related systems and components. Responsibilities encompass generating and updating their own Engineering drawings and bills of materials and working with the wider Mechanical team. The role includes liaison and collaboration with interrelated engineering disciplines, departments and stakeholders of the wider shipyard, and Mechanical Equipment OEMs.
This role has a Mechanical Equipment focus, such as propulsion equipment, diesel generation, and other ship’s Mechanical Equipment, mounting and integration. Preference shall be given to those with related mechanical and heavy Mechanical Equipment experience, preferably in the marine / shipbuilding environment.
Responsibilities
- Engineering, design and integration of Mechanical Equipment and associated systems
- Liaison between Mechanical Equipment OEMs and Shipyard personnel on installation and specifics as processes may be adapted to the relevant sub-contractors.
- Liaison with OEMs on any product change and integration in the mission and support systems
- 2D drafting, drawing updates and sketches, primarily NX for PID updates, and 2D BricsCAD
- Occasional 3D modelling in Siemens NX, working with specialists in this field as required
- 3D visualisation in Siemens TC Vis within the Engineering team, and to help communicate engineering intent installation access and technical queries
- Use of inhouse and Siemens PLM systems to manage equipment bills of material, specifications and lifecycles
- Shop floor drawings, overview drawings, bills of material and equipment, including maintenance considerations with other departments.
- Process and respond to technical queries and non-conformance tickets, including liaison with Production, Manufacturing and Sub-Contractors via the Project Engineers, and directly with the Mechanical Equipment OEMs.
- Check manufacturing data for compliance to applicable design and manufacturing standards
- Ship specific system responsibility dependent on design discipline, primarily relating to mechanical and heavy Mechanical Equipment
- Creation and checking of engineering drawings OEM, in house and subcontractors.
- Preparation of inquiry and order specifications
- Creation of test specifications for Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs). As well as participation in and execution of FATs where technical assistance is requested by Quality.
- Manage design drawings, engineering changes and notices relating to Mechanical.
- Coordination of the relevant building specification
- Continuous further development of ship system knowledge and product knowledge
- Creation and maintenance of checklists for standard processes for relevant ship systems to mechanical activities
Requirements
- Completed studies in the field of Mechanical engineering or a comparable qualification
- Ideally Degree qualified with no less than 5 years’ relevant work experience
- Industry-relevant experience, ideally no less than 5 years specific experience, and other qualifications shall be taken into consideration
- Shipbuilding experience highly regarded, primarily heavy Mechanical Equipment
- Defence experience highly regarded, primarily heavy Mechanical Equipment
- Seafarer / Engineering, Chief Engineer experience highly regarded
- Production and trade experience highly regarded
- Competent knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is essential
- Exposure and competence in AutoCAD (BricsCAD) highly regarded PLM and/or database experience highly regarded
