The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment.
About the Project
The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:
Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

The Role:
Based in Yarraville, Vic we are seeking a Mechanical Site Engineer to join us in delivering this iconic project and leave an amazing legacy for the people of Melbourne.
As a Mechanical Engineer on this high-profile infrastructure project you will be accountable for:
- Organise and carry out engineering tasks to ensure activities are planned and delivered in advance of their target date;
- Ensure all works are planned and delivered in compliance with required technical specifications;
- Developing Scope of Works, tendering supply and works packages and management of awarded packages;
- Sourcing and ordering of materials;
- Monthly assessing of claims and forecasting; and Management of computerised maintenance management system
To be successful you will ideally have the following experience and capabilities:
Minimum 2 years post graduate experience, ideally in an identical role across the execution of a major infrastructure project;
Experience in assembly, operation and maintenance of major construction plant, including but not limited to Road Header Machines, Cranes, Drilling equipment, Shotcrete and Concreting Machinery, Ventilation Plant, Water Treatment Plant and general Diesel-powered mobile equipment;
Ability to engage and communicate at all levels, especially site supervision and workforce.
