HBT Services QLD is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery across QLD and operates under two (2) plants, being Overhauls and Gearbox repairs.
Position purpose:
The Mechanical Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installations within our overhaul facility. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and organisational skills to ensure that targets are met efficiently while maintaining quality standards and safety protocols.
The position of Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for:
- Direct supervision of leading hands, fitters, apprentices and TAs to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with managers and other supervisors to develop and implement schedules and workflows, ensuring efficient utilisation of resources and timely completion of orders.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities, ensuring workload distribution and adherence to schedules.
- Provide training and mentorship to develop the skills and capabilities of team members.
- Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems, including HVAC, pumps, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to minimise downtime and maximise equipment reliability.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialised repairs and services as needed.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to plan and prioritise mechanical maintenance activities.
- Develop maintenance plans and schedules based on equipment criticality and production requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure minimal disruption to operations during maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
- Generate reports on equipment performance, maintenance costs, and downtime metrics.
- Utilise computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders and inventory.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in mechanical maintenance activities.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to optimise equipment performance and reliability.
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives to address recurring issues.

- Trade Qualified Mechanical Fitter

Previous Knowledge & Experience:
- Underground experience, or previous experience overhauling underground mining equipment.
- Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance environment, with at least some experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Good technical knowledge of mechanical fitment practices and troubleshooting.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve goals.
- Solid understanding of quality control principles and practices, with experience in implementing quality management systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office and manufacturing software systems for production planning and inventory management.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
