Special Olympics Australia (“SOA”) was established in 1976 providing sporting opportunities for people with an intellectual disability of all ages and abilities. Special Olympics is a year-round multi-sports program for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community. We create accessible sports training, coaching and competition opportunities for all people with an intellectual disability whether they want to take part in recreational activities, aspire to climb the competition ladder or seek additional opportunities outside of our program.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide inclusive training and competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities enabling opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, improve wellbeing, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with the community.

Primary Purpose of Position

To deliver member support services including the recruitment, retention and support of athletes and volunteers. This position will coordinate the management, organisation, storage and accessing of information, including through the maintenance, accuracy and reliability of the SOA Membership and Games competition registries, and the delivery of Club Forums and other training to volunteer membership coordinators. The role also provides day-to-day ICT, software and hardware support for SOA and its volunteers.

Key Accountabilities

Membership

  • Support athlete and volunteer recruitment, including the annual membership period
  • Ensure all memberships are processed correctly, and paid timeously
  • Follow up non-renewing and lapsed members, including via volunteers
  • Monitor, analyse and report on membership trends on a weekly basis
  • Regularly engage with volunteers to gain feedback and understand pain points

Development

  • Support Clubs/States with appropriate resources, information and training to ensure strong and sustainable leadership
  • Support Clubs/States to implement SOA policies and best practice standards
  • Support volunteers to effectively use the SOA membership database
  • Support the identification of recognition and reward opportunities for volunteers

Compliance

  • Ensure Clubs/States are compliant with the Club Accreditation Framework, Program Quality Standards and all legislative requirements
  • Ensure athletes and volunteers are fully registered including all screenings/checks
  • Maintain accurate member records and ensure high-quality data management

Systems

  • Develop and maintain an asset register of all platforms used across the business
  • Provide training and support to staff and volunteers on business platforms
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of licenses to staff and volunteers in order to effectively meet operational requirements
  • Support new staff to gain access to, and departing staff to undertake a handover of, relevant software, licenses and platforms

Leadership

  • Provide staff management and support for Database Administrator
  • Provide support to Club/State Membership Coordinators and Leadership Teams
  • Actively contribute to a ‘One Team’ culture at all levels of the organisation
  • Always role model the SOA values and place athletes at the centre of what we do
