The OzHelp Foundation Ltd (OzHelp) was established in 2001 after David O’Bryan, a young Canberra apprentice, took his own life. In the 20 years since, OzHelp has become a national leader in providing essential Mental Health and Wellbeing services to Australia’s 3 million plus, workers in high-risk, hard to reach industries. OzHelp’s outreach approach takes support to the workplaces and communities across Australia, with a specific focus on the building and construction, and transport and logistics industries, and future phased entry into manufacturing, agriculture and mining.
OzHelp’s internal programs are clinically sound, with accreditation under the National Mental Health Standards and Suicide Prevention Australia, also having won various industry awards. The auditing, consulting, counselling, and on-the-ground delivery services the Foundation provides, are helping change conversations in Australian workplaces about the importance of Mental Health, wellbeing and psychological safety.
The RoleOur Wellbeing Support Workers provide a welcoming entry point for engagement, assessment, care planning and coordination, and recovery-oriented interventions as a part of multidisciplinary team.
As the need for our services grows, the OzHelp foundation is expanding and seeking individuals passionate about Mental Health and Wellbeing, who thrive on making a difference in someone’s life to join our team as one of our Wellbeing Support Worker, with community and Mental Health counselling experience.
Working under the general direction of the Service Delivery and Operations Manager, you will play an integral role in the delivery of OzHelp’s early intervention programs, onsite health checks and support pathways for the building and construction and transport and logistics industries, as well as provide support to the broader Nursing and Clinical Governance team.
This position will be required to travel regularly.
A typical day might include;
- Engaging in community outreach to raise awareness about Mental Health issues.
- Promoting social, emotional and physical wellbeing
- Identifying client needs and providing support and/or referrals to workers experiencing difficulties such as unemployment, illness, family situations, drug and substance abuse, financial difficulty, mental illness, workplace issues, bullying, suicidal thoughts or personal crises.
- Assisting in the delivery of onsite health checks through the OzHelp’s Early Intervention Health Screening and Assessment program that is used as a pathway to provide further information, education, and Wellbeing Support.
- Conducting intake assessments and warm referrals that connect individuals with appropriate services, such as including alcohol and other drugs services, housing, Mental Health crisis services, general practice, allied health services, CIT, TAFE, vocational and industry mentor, and support programs.
- Assisting in identifying, analysing, and mitigating delivery risks and issues. Collaborate with the team to develop contingency plans and escalate critical issues to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Certificate IV Mental Health/ Graduate Certificate in Counselling or equivalent.
- At least two years' experience in a relevant discipline (community development, community welfare, social work, Mental Health or youth work).
- Knowledge and understanding of the Australian health system including policies and issues relevant to Mental Health and suicide prevention reforms in Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in support services using person centered, strengths focused brief therapy or similar.
- Must be able to travel nationally and regularly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient computing skills to support accurate data entry and note taking skills.
- Australian citizenship or ability to work in Australia.
- Current relevant state/territory driver licence.
Ideally you will also have (but not essential).
- Experience with client database and record management software (CRM).
- Connection with the building and construction or transport and logistics industries. /Experience working in a high risk, hard to reach industry such as building and construction, transport or farming and agriculture
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or ability and willingness to obtain.
- Working with Vulnerable People registration, or ability and willingness to obtain.
- Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain.
- Construction Industry White card, Silica and Asbestos training, or ability and willingness to obtain.
