About the opportunity
Working together in Working together, Wellways, Barwon Health, Watharoung Aboriginal Cooperative Ltd and ERMHA365 will provide a range of support and therapies specific to what the community needs, whenever and wherever they are needed.
The Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Support Worker will work alongside consumers to provide intensive support to enable consumers, and families and carers to address their psychosocial, emotional and alcohol and other drug needs. In consultation with the multidisciplinary team, you will conduct the Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR), coordinate navigation, linkage, comprehensive assessment, care and discharge planning.
The MH&AOD Support Worker will work alongside allocated consumers to provide intensive support to enable consumers, and families and carers to address their psychosocial, emotional and alcohol and other drug needs.
The MH&AOD Support Worker also provides 1:1 therapeutic psychosocial and alcohol and other drug education and intervention. Where relevant, the MH&AOD Support Worker draws upon their own experiences to support consumers to understand their experience and aid recovery and self-management.
About you
Central to the role you will have the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including with colleagues who have lived and living experience of Mental Health conditions or as carers of those who do.
A typical day for a MH&AOD Support Worker would usually start in the office where you will review the existing support plan and case notes and plan for the day(s) ahead together with other members of the GGQ Local Service.
You will also need:
- Certificate IV/Diploma in AOD/Mental Health/Peer Work or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work experience in the Mental Health Sector or Intentional Peer Support Training
- Possess a core understanding of a variety of models of practice which are complementary to supporting people with their Mental Health and alcohol and other drugs
- National Police Check
- Current Working with Children Check
- NDIS Workers Screening check
- Evidence of right to work in Australia
- 100 points of identification
- NDIS Workers Orientation module certificate - free online course
About Us
Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are free, voluntary, and easy to access, with no referral required. Importantly, these new services will be delivered on the basis of 'how can we help? and a 'no wrong door' approach, focused on giving choice and control over how the consumer wants to receive support.
This new service will make it easier for the consumer to access the support they need, closer to home and family, carers, and support networks.
Most importantly, Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are safe spaces for everyone.
