About the role:

An opportunity for four (4) x Mental Health Cliniciansto be part of our Health and Wellbeing Hub for the Southern Metro Region, located in Dandenong.

The Health and Wellbeing Hub is the single most significant investment in the health, safety, and wellbeing of Victoria Police employees to prevent and respond to work related injuries. Six multi-disciplinary teams are being established, based in hubs across the state, with a focus on enhancing employee's Mental Health, injury prevention, early intervention, and recovery and return to work support.

This newly created team offers an exciting opportunity to support Victoria Police employees. You will work on the ground in our Police Stations, travelling across the division as required to meet our people where they are located to deliver proactive Mental Health services in person. 

The Mental Health Clinician will provide preventative and proactive Mental Health services to Victoria Police employees. The position will work closely and collaboratively with local managers and employees to improve help seeking and early engagement with appropriate Mental Health services.

Reporting to the Mental Health Clinician Team Leader, the incumbent will use a relational and integrated approach, to engage with employees through wellbeing conversations, brief interventions, care co-ordination and reflective practice, creating pathways for employees to seek the most appropriate support they need.

Your duties will include:

  • Deliver high quality Mental Health and wellbeing support to employees in an integrated and relational model which involves being present and visible around police stations.
  • Support employees through the recovery journey, focusing on the injured workers' needs and keeping Mental Health and wellbeing at the forefront of your work.
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team of health, safety, and wellbeing professionals, providing clinical expertise to the team.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Mental Health and wellbeing support is the central focus of your clinical practise.
  • Deliver clinical interventions such as wellbeing conversations, brief interventions, and case co-ordination in accordance with the Victoria Police clinical governance framework.
  • Facilitate preventative and proactive interventions, such as group based reflective practice.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers to uplift capability in the management of employees experiencing Mental Health issues.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Established knowledge of prevalent Mental Health and wellbeing issues and best practice approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering short-term Mental Health interventions and group based reflective supervision.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, with a track record of establishing and maintaining productive working relationships in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing abilities, coupled with an ability to foster relationships and interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate difficult conversations with a range of stakeholders including clients and managers.
  • Expertise in management of complex mental injuries would be a significant asset.
  • Full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA; or registration as a Social Worker with AASW; or registered Mental Health Nurse with AHPRA; or Occupational Therapist with AHPRA and endorsed for Mental Health practice by OTA.

  • Four (4) x full-time, ongoing positions available.
  • These positions are located at Dandenong Police Complex, 50 Langhorne Street, Dandenong.
  • These positions require regular travel, applicants must hold a current Driver's Licence.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
