Mental Heatlh Nurse

As we embark on this exciting journey, we're seeking a dedicated, dynamic individual with expertise in Mental Health, to join our multidisciplinary lifestyle medicine and novel therapeutics program. Brain & Mind Hub Sunshine Coast is the flagship clinical offering from Thompson Brain & Mind Healthcare Ltd. At the heart of our mission is a revolutionary approach to Mental Health, grounded in precision neuroscience. We're pioneering an integrated model-of-care that blends traditional therapies with cutting-edge treatments, including personalised programs guided by innovative brain imaging techniques.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Mental Health Nurse with an interest in prevention and promotion/ lifestyle medicine and a genuine interest in helping others achieve their wellbeing goals. They will have a desire to move beyond current treatment paradigms in Mental Healthcare to deliver effective person-directed, evidence based, and recovery-focused interventions as part of an integrated model-of-care.

About the role   

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Mental Health Nurse to join our team at our flagship Brain & Mind Hub Mental Healthcare clinic. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality person-led care, across our lifestyle medicine and novel therapeutics platforms, with the aim of restoring physical and mental wellbeing. The ideal candidate for this role supports and actively participates in positive lifestyle practices and acts as a role model to guide clients towards healthy choices.  

Job Activities   

  • Working closely with team members to optimise the client care experience   
  • Providing education and lifestyle coaching to patient groups aimed at supporting healthy lifestyle behaviours and positive lifestyle change   
  • Provide high quality nurse-led health care by interviewing, assessing and treating clients, and improving their quality of life as part of a multi-disciplinary team  
  • Provide education on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to clients and families   
  • Represent Brain & Mind Hub in the local and broader community through promotion and support of positive educational programs for the public   
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity, decision-making abilities, and capacity to work flexibility   
  • Follow organisational policies, procedures, and protocols   

Specific Characteristics and Qualifications   

The Mental Health Nurse is required to be appropriately trained and experienced with demonstrated capacity and ability to:   

  • Provide comprehensive empathetic and compassionate care to people with mental ill-health including Mental Health risk assessment and risk management plans 
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with people seeking support and their family/carers in cooperation with other care providers 
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide integration and coordination between different programs 
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse team members, carers and clients   
  • Superior communication skills, and the ability to function in a rapidly changing environment   
  • Applied knowledge, skills and experience in Mental Healthcare and lifestyle medicine appropriate to the position    
  • Proficient with client education regarding health/disease status, associated therapies and ongoing benefits in program participation and completion  
  • Ability to use knowledge base to educate and motivate change in clients, towards self-management  
  • Experience and/or capacity to contribute to program development and implementation including working autonomously and as part of a high functioning team  
  • Collaborate with team members to establish program materials/resources and procedures  
  • Maintain the current practice knowledge, skills and expertise by active participation in professional development activities including practice supervision 

Applicants who possess the following will be highly regarded:

  • Mental health post graduate qualifications 
  • Skills in Motivational Interviewing and CBT   
  • Lifestyle medicine qualifications  
  • Registration as a registered nurse with AHPRA   
  • Current Professional Indemnity Insurance   
  • A current Criminal Record Screening    
  • A current Blue Card, or the ability to gain one prior to commencing employment   
  • A current Yellow Card, or the ability to gain one prior to commencing employment
