'The Lounge' is a warm, welcoming place, providing connection and support for socially isolated, marginalised and vulnerable women. Many of these women have chronic, complex or inadequately managed Mental Health conditions, some of whom are NDIS participants. The Lounge is a relaxed peer support setting where people are treated as guests rather than clients. The team includes The Lounge Mental Health Co-ordinator, a NDIS Mental Health practitioner and support workers, and a number of peer-support volunteers.
Purpose of Role
We are seeking an appropriately qualified and experienced Social Worker to provide clinical support services to The Lounge program. This role will focus on connecting with the participants informally and build rapport which will then provide a pathway to more formal assessments, individual or group therapy as appropriate. Eligibility to deliver services under desirable, but not essential. The successful candidate will ideally have strong existing networks within the Mental Health sector.
We are currently evaluating the impact of The Lounge on the women who attend, and this role will include collection of qualitative and quantitative data.
Reporting Pathways
This position reports to and receives administrative supervision from the Chief Executive Officer. Professional supervision arrangements will be arranged with the successful candidate.
Duties of Role
- Build rapport with the women who attend The Lounge and provide professional counselling services when required;
- Provide brief intervention support in conjunction with The Lounge Mental Health Co-ordinator;
- Provide clinical leadership, and professional supervision where relevant, to the staff and volunteers at The Lounge, ensuring consistent program quality;
- Build on key existing relationships and collaborate with other Mental Health providers, including public and private adult Mental Health services.
Key Selection Criteria
- A personal commitment to the Christian basis and values of the organisation;
- A recognised Social Work qualification;
- Relevant experience working with Mental Health conditions;
- Warm and engaging interpersonal skills and knowledge, particularly in dealing with vulnerable and marginalised people;
- Experience in leading and developing a multi-disciplinary team;
- Demonstrated strong networking and representational skills;
- A current driver’s licence and vehicle available for work use. Reimbursement is provided for work-based travel.
This role includes a work laptop and mobile phone.
