The Mental Health Technician is responsible for providing care and support to patients with Mental Health disorders. They assist Mental Health professionals, monitor patient behaviour, provide emotional and psychological support, and maintain patient records. The ideal candidate should have a certification or training as a Mental Health Technician, knowledge of Mental Health disorders, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Mental Health professionals with patient care
- Monitor and report patient behaviour and reactions to medication or therapy
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and activities
- Help patients with activities of daily living
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families
- Maintain patient medical, behavioural, and medication records
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff
- Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and protocols
- Participate in training and educational activities
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and staff
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Certification or training as a Mental Health Technician
- Working knowledge of Mental Health disorders and their associated behaviours
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and boundaries
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Patience, compassion, and empathy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work with patients with varying needs and conditions
- Ability to work rotating shifts and schedules as per the patient needs
