Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced disability support workers who enjoy the outdoors to take part in an innovative program with HYPAR Wild. Our program combines therapeutic principles with outdoor adventure activities to provide experiences to our participants. This ground-breaking approach to disability support aims to build skills, capacity, confidence and self-efficacy.

We are looking to engage HYPAR Wild Mentors with a background in disability support who are interested in providing high quality safety focused activities that enhance the lives of our participants.

About the role…

A day in the role of our Mentors will include:

  • Become a positive role model to service users, guiding them through life as well as activities.
  • Have the ability focus on relationship building, using activities as a tool to form solid bonds and provide positive experiences to participants.
  • Engage our participants in outdoor adventure activities such as mountain biking, abseiling, rock climbing, kayaking and canoeing. This can be in a 1:1 scenario or group activities
  • Assist in creation of outdoor education programs and facilitate camps integrating therapeutic and educational input with adventure activities.
  • Proactively seek out and mitigate potential risks within an activity and nearby environment.
  • Gather feedback on activities, complete activity reports and compile data to track improvements in the participants over time.

About you….

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Exceptional emotional intelligence, demonstrating initiative and flexibility and be able to build strong relationships with our participants
  • Is passionate about working in the outdoors and is enthusiastic about incorporating outdoor activities with a therapeutic approach.
  • Physical fitness level to complete outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, mountain biking etc.
  • Be able to facilitate group activities managing participants in a dynamic environment.
  • Desire to be a part of a dedicated team that also share the same focus-driven outcomes
  • The ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations
  • Strong professional boundaries
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal and are proficient in the use of smart phones/computers.
  • The drive to do meaningful work that improves the lives of our participants
  • Ability to work a flexible roster, available across morning, evening and weekend shifts including the ability to work scheduled camps as required.

You will also be required to have or ability to obtain: 

  • Disability Support Work experience - Highly Regarded
  • Qualifications in Outdoor Activities such as High Ropes, Abseiling etc - Highly Regarded
  • A current Traffic History Check
  • Paid Blue Card
  • Paid NDIS Disability Worker Screening (or valid yellow card)
  • Child Safety background screening check (LCS2)
  • Have access to a registered vehicle and full comprehensive insurance with a QLD open licence
  • A working android or apple smartphone
