M&A is one of the major aspects of corporate finance world. Each facet of M&A has its own unique challenge and it often takes a diverse team to get the best results on a deal. Deloitte's M&A business is one of the largest in Australia, advising top tier clients on complex merger, acquisition, divestment and capital market activities. Our team works across a range of sectors including consumer business, financial services, infrastructure, technology, healthcare and real estate. At Deloitte we provide support for our team to pursue relevant post graduate qualifications such as a CA or CFA designation.
What will your typical day look like?
Within M&A at Deloitte there are two interesting areas of work: * Advisory - We support our clients by advising them on merger & acquisition (M&A) transactions, including buying and selling businesses and assets. From start-ups to globally recognised brands, we work with a variety of clients including privately owned founder or family-led businesses, public companies, and private equity houses (and their investee companies).
We advise clients across the whole M&A lifecycle - that means from the moment they begin to consider a transaction, to the day that the deal completes and ownership changes. We support our clients every step of the way, from articulating an investment thesis, analysing financials to understand business performance, and finding a buyer to sell to or a business to acquire, through to assisting with negotiation on the deal, project managing the needs of due diligence and other advisors, and working out who gets what proceeds at completion.
Throughout a transaction, our focus is on maximising value for our clients and finding the best fit for their future. We support businesses and owners in making important decisions and realising value for them and their stakeholders. It can be a highly emotive time for them and our support helps guide them through the challenges they face during a deal process. * Transaction Services - We work closely with our clients through the entire M&A lifecycle to deliver financial due diligence which includes analysis of accounting information, analytics on key financial/operating performance metrics, advice on transaction related accounting matters and review of sale and purchase agreements. You'll get to build your analytical and advisory skills as you support clients by providing advice based on financial analysis of key valuation drivers of a transaction. Vacationers and Graduates undertake analysis of annual and monthly financial statements to identify trends, drivers of trading performance and any one-off events. Knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, commercial and business acumen and familiarity with Microsoft Excel are highly desirable.
