This is an expatriate opportunity working a 16/12 days FIFO roster from/to Australia.
Reporting to the Mining Operations & MTS Manager, the Mining Principal – Operations provides leadership for mine production, pit development, drill and blast, and dispatch whilst ensuring health, safety, environmental and community relations standards are set and maintained.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Ensuring safety standards meet or exceed statutory requirements.
- Develop and advance standards and policies for Mining department.
- Assume the role and responsibilities of the Mining Operations Manager in their absence.
- Implement systems and processes to ensure that operating discipline is maintained at all times and that quality targets are achieved.
- Assist in the development of departmental budget consistent with the strategic plan and objectives.
- Lead the implementation and development of safety and business improvement areas including technology performance enhancement systems.
- Implementation of behavioural based safety culture, including critical controls reviews and safe behaviour observations coaching and mentoring.
- Manage mining department costs and take action in a timely manner to ensure that production targets are met within budgetary constraints.
- Manage the performance and development of the mining team, making recruitment decisions, applying Performance management practices, and implementing training programs.
- Lead decision making, whilst ensuring that employees are empowered to make decisions on issues within their competency. Monitor decision quality, checking for adherence to policies and standards, and coaching for improvement.
- Ensure the department's medium-term targets are identified and achieved through planning, scheduling operational implementation.
- Contribute to the development of annual plans, monitor/evaluate performance and provide business analysis for the operation.
- Ensure monthly and annual production targets (ore tones, grade and waste movement) are achieved cost effectively in accordance with the Mine Planning processes, whilst adhering to company standards.
- Management of performance and costs for key mining contractors and service providers that are active on site.
You should be a self-motivated professional holding the following experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in large scale open pit mining including senior supervisory and management roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Ability to obtain PNG Metalliferous Mine Manager – Surface certificate of competency.
- C Class Drivers Licence and current First Aid Qualification.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Communication and cultural awareness is key, strong interpersonal and relationship building skills are a must as well as an appreciation for operating in a developing country.
