Mixed Crop and Livestock Farmer
Position Overview:
Join our celebrated dairy farm located on Killarney within the NT as a Mixed Crop and Livestock Farmer. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate individual to contribute to the production of various grass breeds and taking care of the livestock. This position requires someone with a minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience and unrestricted working rights in Australia.
Responsibilities:
Livestock Care: Oversee the health, condition, and well-being of livestock, ensuring they are raised inoptimal conditions to produce high-quality meat (milk, or eggs).
Crop Cultivation
: Contribute to the cultivation of crops including maize, while actively participating in the growth of various grass breeds. (whenever if required)
Pasture and Nutrition Management
: Provide appropriate pastures and fodder to maintain excellent nutritional levels for the livestock. Ensure optimal grazing and nutritional conditions for maximum productivity.
Breeding Programs
: Collaborate in planning and implementing breeding programs for livestock and various grass breeds to enhance genetic traits and overall performance.
Farm Maintenance
: Oversee general farming activities such as fertilizing, pest and weed control, and farminfrastructure maintenance, including buildings, fences, and equipment.
Market Monitoring
: Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities, and monitor market trends to planproduction accordingly, ensuring that products meet market demands.
Logistics and Trade
: Organize the sale, purchase, and transportation of livestock and produce, ensuringtimely delivery to the market while adhering to regulatory requirements.
Business Management
: Manage business capital effectively, making informed decisions based on marketactivity and production planning. Contribute to the financial success of the farm.
Team Management
: May be involved in selecting, training, and supervising staff and contractors, ensuring acohesive and efficient farm operation.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of 2 to 3 years of practical experience in Mixed Crop and livestock farming.
At a minimum, we expect to see a highly relevant Diploma or agreed alternative
In-depth understanding of dairy farming practices, crop cultivation, and livestock management.
Familiarity with breeding programs and genetic improvement strategies.
Proficiency in pasture management, nutrition, and animal husbandry.
Practical knowledge of farm maintenance, equipment operation, and infrastructure upkeep.
Strong record-keeping skills for tracking farming activities and market trends.
Ability to make informed decisions based on market conditions and production planning.
Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members, contractors, and stakeholders.
