Vail Resorts own and operate ski areas including iconic resorts such as Perisher, Falls Creek and Hotham in Australia as well as Park City, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb and Vail in North America. Working across our three Australian resorts, this role offers the flexibility to be based onsite at one of our beautiful resorts or to work remotely from within Victoria or NSW if preferred.
Reporting into the US-based Mountain Resorts Legal Team, the Mountain Resorts Counsel will provide general legal advice and counsel to senior leadership at our three Australian resorts and work collaboratively with other members of the Mountain Resorts Legal Team to support legal matters in Whistler Blackcomb and other North American resorts. Joining this team comes with exciting growth possibilities with potential to expand local scope and opportunities to work cross-functionally on enterprise-wide projects.
In a typical day in this role, you might:
- Provide general legal advice and counsel to senior leadership at Perisher, Falls Creek and Hotham regarding resort operations, including advice on regulatory, commercial, transactional, pre-litigation, water, housing, and land use legal issues
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Mountain Resorts Legal Team to support legal matters in Whistler Blackcomb and other North American resorts and corporate functions
- Collaborate with guest and employee operations, health and safety personnel and other company departments to assist in developing and advising on company policies, procedures and best practices, to add value, limit liability and reduce legal risks to the Company
- Administer and advise on Australian privacy obligations in accordance with the Privacy Act
- Proactively identify trends in legal issues to strategically mitigate risk across operations
- Contribute broadly to the leadership of the business, working effectively with senior management and creating strong trusted advisor relationships with business leaders
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A tertiary qualification in Law
- A current practicing certificate (from any Australian state or territory)
- A minimum of 4 years’ post-qualified experience, with material training and experience relating to general business advice, and other areas of applicable law
- A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Relevant experience at a top-tier law firm in Australia would be highly desirable. We are also very keen to hear from candidates who have gained experience in any of the following areas:
- Australian consumer protection laws
- Providing legal advice for resort operations
- Regulatory law
- Legal and/or corporate compliance programs
- International/cross-border operations.

Remuneration will be negotiated commensurate with qualifications, experience, skills and abilities. Additional to the remuneration package, outstanding employee benefits will apply.
