The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join the Product Innovation and Technology team at our Mechanical Testing Laboratory (MTL) as aSection Specialist. The MTL provides a critical testing service to BlueScope’s Port Kembla operations to verify the conformance to Australian and International Standards for our hot-rolled, plate, welded-beam, metallic-coated and pre-painted structural products.
In our National Association of Testing Authorities Australia (NATA) accredited laboratory, you’ll support the team with the quality mechanical testing of the various product samples, and act as step-up team leader to oversee the daily operations. Working in a supportive environment with a collaborative team, you will receive continuous training and development in the role, contribute to the safety of our people, and ensure the quality testing of our product is prioritised according to despatch schedules.
When you join our team, we also offer access to our Employee Assistance provider, other health and well-being programs. This is a full-time Monday-Friday day-shift role, with occasional weekend work depending upon production scheduling.
What Will You Do?
You will actively participate in providing continuous improvement and outstanding services within the team whilst growing your knowledge and skills. You will also:
- successfully contribute to a safe working environment
- ensure MTL operations comply with regulatory, NATA and other external accreditation requirements
- address product certification issues as they arise
- design and implement projects to facilitate improved safety, operational security, productivity and efficiency within MTL
- ensure integrity of calibration processes and systems for the testing equipment
More About You
With your continuous strive for quality, you will combine your high attention to detail, and your ability to analyse and interpret technical data. You will also bring:
- tertiary diploma or degree qualifications in engineering (materials/mechanical/metallurgy will be highly regarded)
- experience with Mainframe applications and other BlueScope business systems, with proficiency in the Laboratory Information Management System (LabWare LIMS) highly regarded
- familiarity with laboratory operations that evaluate critical product attributes, and demonstrated application of safety and quality systems
- the ability to work independently while contributing to the greater team’s success
- a willingness to provide leave coverage as a step-up team leader to help grow and develop your skills
