Our Environmental Health and Regulatory Services team has the following exciting opportunities:

Ranger

As a Ranger, your key responsibility will be to enforce various local legislation and Council policies related to dog control, parking, unlawful camping, littering, vehicles on beaches, straying stock, animal impounding, overgrown properties, and abandoned vehicles. This involves ensuring compliance with these regulations through proactive enforcement measures.

This position will ideally suit someone who is passionate about community service, enjoys working directly with people, and is dedicated to upholding regulations that contribute to the well-being and enhancement of the local community. We are looking for someone with:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and/or Rangers 1 & 2 or a willingness to obtain qualifications in this field
  • Demonstrated experience in local government regulatory services and a sound working knowledge of relevant legislation is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to work effectively, autonomously and accept responsibility within a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience in negotiation and conflict resolution

Salary: Salary range circa $70,000 p.a. - $77,000 p.a. plus superannuation.

A "to and from" use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time. 38 hours per week on a 7-day rotating roster.

Senior Ranger

This role combines regulatory enforcement with community education and leadership within the Environmental Health and Regulatory Services Department. It requires someone with strong interpersonal skills, a sound knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, and the ability to provide guidance on intricate issues to ensure the well-being and safety of the community and its environment. As a Senior Ranger, you will play a crucial role in providing support to fellow team members. This may involve mentoring, training, and providing technical advice on complex issues and investigations and guiding the team in decision-making and ensuring consistency in enforcement actions.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) and/or Rangers 1 & 2, and extensive experience in a similar role
  • High level knowledge and ability to apply and interpret relevant legislation including but not limited to, the Local Government Act, Companion Animals Act, Roads Act, Impounding Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, and the Australian Road Rules
  • Proven ability to work effectively, autonomously and within a team environment
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills relevant to the position with a strong focus on the provision of quality customer service

Salary: Salary range circa $80,000 p.a. - $88,000 p.a. plus superannuation.

A "to and from" use vehicle is available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Please note that to be successful in these roles, candidates will need to complete a pre-employment medical check (this will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component).

Location: Both positions will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
