Job Description
We have 3 smart, curious, energetic boys aged 6, 8, and 10. Our boys typically like each other and enjoy spending time together. They love playing board games and card games. They also love sports - soccer, cricket, basketball, tennis, bike riding and skateboarding. They all enjoying drawing and will often draw together on the whiteboard. Like many kids their age they also enjoy computer games like Mario Kart and Minecraft but we save that for the weekend. My husband works full time in the city and I am a full time student so we need help caring for our boys 3 afternoons a week.
Your Duties
We are seeking someone who will collect the boys from school ant 3pm and then walk them home (it’s about 200m walk). Help them unpack their school bags, unpack lunchboxes, ensure they have some afternoon tea, remind them of music practice and/or homework, then play. Ideally we would love someone who is happy to stick the dirty lunch containers in the dishwasher (or remind the boys to do this) and occasionally help get dinner started (like turn the oven on and pop something already prepped into the oven). If you feel like playing soccer with the kids in the back yard that’s a bonus but not essential. We will be home between 5 and 6pm so it’s not expected that you will need to make dinner completely.
Our Perfect Caregiver
We are looking for someone who enjoys playing games and sports with the kids but also is kind and curious about them. We’ve noticed that someone who gently enquires about their day at school and delights in their stories is loved by our boys. We would like someone who is responsive to our kids needs as the need arises such as offering afternoon tea to help them get along. We are hoping to find someone who is good at keeping their cool when things go wrong (like skinned knees on the way home from school or accidental blood noses on the trampoline). We know accidents happen and with three active boys accidents happen often so basic first aid is essential (certificate not needed just common sense). Two of our kids have allergies, one has anaphylaxis so alert to allergic responses is important as is keeping calm in the moment. You also need to be prepared to hold firm boundaries like no Nintendo on school days and limit tv time.
