Job description

Magenta Shores Golf and Country Club is nestled along the pristine coastline of New South Wales, offering breathtaking views and world-class amenities. As an award-winning golf and lifestyle destination, we are committed to environmental stewardship and sustainability, particularly in preserving and promoting Native Landscapes and vegetation.

We are seeking a Native Landscape & Vegetation Manager to maintain the natural flora in the areas surrounding our Greens and Fairways.   Reporting directly to the Superintendent, your role is to enhance the beauty, sustainability, and ecological value of the golf course landscape through the thoughtful integration of native plantings and sustainable land management practices. 

Key Responsibilities:

Native Plant Selection: Research, select, propagate and procure native plant species suitable for the local climate, soil conditions, and aesthetics desired for the golf course landscape.

Landscape Design: Under the direction of the course superintendent, integrate native plantings seamlessly into the overall course layout and design.

Sustainable Land Management: Implement sustainable land management practices to ensure the health and vitality of native plant communities while minimizing water usage, chemical inputs, and environmental impact.

Planting and Maintenance: Oversee the planting, care, and maintenance of native plantings throughout the golf course, including regular watering, pruning, weeding, and pest management as needed.

Erosion Control: Develop and implement erosion control strategies using native vegetation to stabilize slopes, prevent soil erosion, and enhance the natural beauty of the landscape.

Wildlife Habitat Enhancement: Create and maintain habitat areas within the golf course landscape to support local wildlife populations, including native birds, pollinators, and other beneficial organisms.

Collaboration: Work closely with other golf course staff, including greenkeepers, irrigation specialists to coordinate landscape maintenance activities and ensure seamless integration with overall course operations.

Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant environmental regulations, permits, and best practices related to native landscaping and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential Criteria 

  • Strong knowledge of native plant species indigenous to the New South Wales coastal region.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Passion for environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives.

Desirable Criteria

  • Horticultural, Parks and Gardens, Nursery hand experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Golf Course Operations preferred.
