In the position of Network Engineer you will be working with and supporting other Network Engineers and are responsible for supporting ongoing operation and maintenance of the Company’s networks, as well as the design, installation, operation, and troubleshooting of customer networks, both wired and wireless. You will be interacting with both internal and external clients to implement, support and maintain network infrastructure.
Role Responsibilities
- Ensuring documentation is complete and up to date
- Multitasking between project and BAU tasks on a daily basis
- Act as an escalation point for, and mentor the Managed Services team, particularly those with a Network focus
- Work on network projects by participating in network installation
- Enforce network standards
- Design and implementation of new solutions whilst improving resilience of current environments
- Administration of operational support systems for networks
- Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources
- Maximise network performance by monitoring and troubleshooting network problems including outages. Scheduling upgrades and performing network optimisation
- Enforcing policies and monitoring access
- Administration and support of firewall environments in line with IT security policy
- On-site support of data centre and customer networks
- Upgrade network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases
- Configuration of routing and switching equipment
- Remote support of on-site engineers and end users/clients
- Liaising with vendors and upstream suppliers to escalate faults, and coordinate changes
- Assisting sales team with design and pricing of networks and implementation services
Skills and Experience
- Industry qualifications – JNCIS, CCNA or equivalent
- 2-5 years’ experience and knowledge of data communications and networking equipment in a networked environment
- 2-5 years in the design, build, configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring, support and network management tools, routers, switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi – Juniper Networks experience is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols
- Experience managing network firewalls, Fortinet/Palo Alto preferred
- Exposure to Cloud-based network technologies
- Demonstrated logical troubleshooting skills are required
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft desktop OS and applications – Microsoft Windows, Office
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft server OS and applications – Windows Server, SQL server, Active Directory and File and Print services
- Experience working with Linux/Windows hosting environments, Citrix environments and Juniper/HPE networking hardware is highly desirable
- Experience with Connectwise Manage or similar ticketing system
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
