About the Program

The Culture Care Connect for Community Controlled Suicide Prevention Program aim is to bring together key streams of Suicide Prevention planning and coordination and activity across the network regions, including raising awareness, early intervention, crisis management and aftercare services.

The program also provides assertive engagement and provision of holistic culturally appropriate casework services to reduce risk and promote sustainable positive, outcomes for families.

About the Role

The primary role of the Network Suicide Prevention Co-ordinator is and not limited to:

  • Support their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to improve access to culturally safe and appropriate Suicide Prevention services
  • Provide direct line support to Culture Care workers
  • Coordinate workflow and other team and/or individual staff commitments to ensure that the level of service provided to clients and the community is commensurate to funding, while being a sustainable level of work for team members – i.e., minimise risk of burn out due to workload
  • Provide supports in the delivery of projects, policy, and procedures to ensure quality services are provided to clients in an efficient and culturally appropriate manner
  • Ensure strong linkages and brokerage activities are undertaken with internal and external services related to key performance outcomes of the program
  • Promotion of the service through networking, education, and presentations to ensure awareness of the program and services with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to ensure continued visibility of the service with referring and peer agencies

Remuneration

This position is under the Nunkuwarrin Yunti Enterprise Agreement classification of Health Services Level 5 (Salary sacrifice and paid Christmas and New Year break)

All positions within Nunkuwarrin Yunti of SA Inc will be required to undergo a six (6) months probationary period.

ESSENTIAL – includes qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge

  • Qualification and/or Cert IV in Aboriginal health / or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or Equivalent or related Social Health and Case Work discipline (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health) and registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., AHPRA, AASW or current recognition as a Mental Health Nurse with AHPRA and possession of a current practising certificate).
  • Practice knowledge and experience working in a mental health, social work or primary care focused case work and clinical interventions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of social and emotional wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in an urban setting.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and societies.
  • Capability to provide case management oversight.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to formulate strategies to solve complex problems.
  • Conflict management and the ability to distinguish between interpersonal vs professional disagreements objectively and impartially.
  • Experience in providing effective and well inform advice, assessment, advocacy, liaison, and referral to practitioners within community services.
  • Proven well developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Ability to liaise, network and negotiate with a range of human service organisations and government agencies.
  • Competent in the use of information and communication technology including MS Office.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in working with Aboriginal people and/or communities.
  • An understanding of the principles of Social Justice and Community Development
  • An understanding of culturally sensitive practices.
  • An understanding of the legal implications of client work.
