Interested in supporting our mission to reduce suicide and suicide related distress in South Australia?
Several opportunities are now available to join the Suicide Prevention Council. The Minister for Health and Wellbeing is calling for expressions of interest from:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with leadership experience in the community;
- people with leadership experience in a multicultural community; and
- people with leadership experience in the LGBTIQ+ community or lived experience of suicide as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community.
In addition to a range of other functions, the Council advises and reports to the Minister on the operation and effectiveness of the State Suicide Prevention Plan, receives reports from prescribed State authorities in relation to their Suicide Prevention action plans, and provides opportunity and a platform for people with lived experience of suicide to have their voice heard.
The Suicide Prevention Council will meet at least 6 times each year. The Council has been classified as Category 2, Level 2 under the Government of South Australia’s Remuneration Framework for Boards and Committees. Eligible members of the Council will receive compensation in line with these established rates.

People with lived experience of suicide are those who have experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicide related distress, or been bereaved by suicide.
The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving ‘Unsupervised Contact with Vulnerable Groups’ is required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
