About the role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a high performing team player in the position of New and Emerging Community Liaison Officer (NECLO) within the Operational Services Division, Southern Metro Region (SMR), Victoria Police. The position is based at the Dandenong Police Complex and will report to the Unit Manager of the Multicultural Liaison Unit and/or the SMR Community Engagement Inspector.

Your duties will include:
  • Develop and implement initiatives, programs and strategies to achieve regional goals.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of New and Emerging communities issues within the local area and maintain contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain positive partnerships with New and Emerging communities to encourage communication, interaction and actively promote awareness of the role of Victoria Police.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and providing appropriate training programs and represent Victoria Police as required at meetings, forums or events that relate to New and Emerging communities issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to customers and prepare, prioritise and provide clear, concise and timely reports and correspondence.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
  • Knowledge and understanding of New and Emerging communities in Victoria, the settlement dispersion and the issues impacting those communities including their history and the current policing issues.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as well as developed analytical and problem-solving skills within a program management environment addressing sensitive issues.
  • Awareness of the activities of local New and Emerging Community groups and relevant government agencies support.
  • Drive, initiative and ability to work autonomously and/or as part of a team with a proven record of ethical behaviour.
Requirements and relevant information:
  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at the Dandenong Police Complex, 50 Langhorne Street Dandenong, VIC, 3175.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
