Brooks – Laboratory Automation Systems, specialise in the design and manufacture of compact, innovative benchtop automation for optimising pre- and post-analytical workflows in pathology and analytical laboratories, and has installations worldwide. We are searching for our next New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer as we accelerate our growth journey. What you’ll do: Ensure that product designs are manufacturable and meet quality standards. Participate in design reviews to identify any potential production issues early in the development phase.

Develop and optimise manufacturing processes tailored to New Products. This includes defining workflow, equipment needs, and implementation strategies to ensure efficient production scaling.

Oversee the ordering, creation and testing of prototypes to validate product functionality and manufacturability before full-scale production. Address any issues arising from prototype tests.

Prepare and take ownership of detailed documentation for manufacturing processes and product specifications. This includes creating process maps, work instructions, DMAIC, DMADV, and standard operating procedures.

Coordinate with other departments such as design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to ensure a smooth transition from concept to production.

Implement quality control processes during the production phase. Work closely with the quality department to set up inspection criteria and procedures.

Analyze and optimize production costs, including materials, labor, and overhead. Work to minimize costs while maintaining product quality.

Manage timelines and schedules for NPI activities, ensuring that projects meet deadlines and stay within budget. Use project management tools to track progress and report to upper management.

Train production staff on new processes and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting once the product is in production.

Ensure all product and process implementations comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the product.

Identify potential risks in the production process and develop mitigation strategies to address them proactively.

What you’ll bring: Relevant tertiary Engineering qualifications in a related discipline,

5+ years experience in New Product Introduction,

Proven ability to meet pre-determined timeframes,

Be adaptable with the ability to diagnose and solve problems,

A strong communicator, capable of building effective relationships with multidisciplinary teams at all levels of the organization,

A strong communicator capable of working directly and effectively with external suppliers,

Strong knowledge of production processes and equipment,

Previous experience with purchasing/sourcing would be an advantage,

Experience with CAD, MS Navision and Oracle would be well regarded,

An eye for detail,

A solutions-oriented focus,

Excellent written and verbal communication skills,

Demonstrable ability to work autonomously and consistently deliver results,

Experience delivering products within an ISO 13485 Quality System is desirable,

A strong team player, mentor and coach for junior colleagues.
