POSITION DESCRIPTION: Prison Transport Group Manager

Who we are:

The Prison Transport Group (PTG) is a registered charity with over 45 years’ experience delivering transport and support services to the families of prisoners in Qld. Our Mission is to provide transport and other support services to the families of prisoners in Qld in order to facilitate family contact. The organisation seeks to create innovative, sustainable, and creative approaches to future program delivery meeting the needs of vulnerable individuals and families.

Current core business and growth opportunities:

PTG is a profit for purpose enterprise and is an external provider contracted to Qld Corrective Services to provide transport to several Correctional Centres in Qld.

PTG also provides general counselling, advice, and support to vulnerable families we are in contact with. PTG grows and sustains a volunteer program and seeks to engage volunteers in the transformational work of the organisation. The Board has set a strategic direction to grow and enhance the service offerings and outreach opportunities.

Hours of work, terms of employment: Part-time permanent [Tuesday to Friday 20 hours per week]

Salary Classification: Social, Community, Housing and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award Level 6

Location: Hybrid working arrangement to be negotiated.

Reporting to: PTG Board Executive and Mission Director.

Key Responsibilities

Project management and service implementation

  •  Investigate and action opportunities to utilise and optimise PTG resources including ‘People to Go’ to enhance PTG’s community participation in line with our Mission.
  • Implement innovative and creative approaches to enhance the participation of family members of prisoners in Qld including optimizing the use of the PTG buses.
  • Establish networks across the social sector to enhance expansion of PTG services.
  • Grow a volunteer base to optimise delivery of services and use of resources.
  • Manage and take responsibility for PTG contracted services including, however not restricted to Visitor Transport Service and the generalist Counselling service meeting the needs of families of prisoners in Southeast Qld.
  • Manage completing projects within agreed timeframes including planning, implementation and coordination of key deliverables including project reporting, administration, and evaluation.

Leadership and operational responsibilities

  • Manage all PTG personnel, operations including budgets and financial reporting, and contracts within agreed deliverables.
  • Exercise managerial control involving the planning, direction, control, and evaluation of operations which includes providing analysis and interpretation for the PTG Board.
  • Manage the recruitment and training of all employees and volunteers.
  • Set outcomes for the priorities to achieve the objectives/strategic plan/mission of PTG.
  • Prepare a range of written documentation including reports, funding submissions, presentations, work policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice on policy matters and contribute to their development.
  • Represent PTG externally with a range of key stakeholders.

Selection criteria

  1. Relevant qualifications in business and/or demonstrated experience and expertise (minimum 10 years) to fulfil the requirements of the position including financial management.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing services meeting measurable outcomes in a profit for purpose organisation.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to develop new and maintain professional relationships, partnerships, and networks to meet the needs of PTG and its client group.
  4. Demonstrated high level experience in managing staff and volunteers working with vulnerable clients and providing an exceptional level of customer service.
  5. Demonstrated high level experience in developing and implementing innovative approaches to service delivery with the ability to manage complex and competing projects with agreed timeframes.
  6. Demonstrated high level written communications skills and experience in developing organisation policy and procedures ensuring legislative compliance, project plans, briefings, reports, and funding submission.
  7. Commitment to social justice and the role of PTG meet the needs of its clients.
